Fred Barber presented a fascinating program at our September 10 meeting describing some technical and logistical challenges in getting to where we are today in the multi-pupose use of satelites.
The space industry has made an amazing difference during our lifetimes in how we gain and share knowledge and communicate across the globe.  There were many obstacles to overcome to get to the place where we are today.  Hearing about the evolution from someone who was intimately involved was fascinating.
We could probably bring him back as a speaker a couple of times a year and hear about another interesting aspect of his amazing career and never exhaust his ability to keep our attention with his stories.  He touched on his involvement with intelligence-gathering, and indicated that is an occupation getting far too little interest from students today.  Because of this, scholarships are available to attract promising students to prepare for this line of work.
