Capturing Kids Hearts highlighted at April 9 meeting
Tami Roth and Mike Murray, principals of Nautilus Elementary and Starline Elementary Schools in Lake Havasu with the help of students, Galen and Cole, students at Starline, shared highlights of the benefits of the Capturing Kids Hearts program. London Bridge Rotary Club has supported this program since it was introduced at Thunderbolt Middle School a few years ago.
The program is intended to create an atmosphere of trust, respect and caring relationships throughout each school. The two boys are both members of the “Respect Club” at Starline, and told of the goal setting and reporting activities they engage in with Ms. Roth each week. The club created their own name, and after a few weeks, the members—on their own—figured out that the criteria for being members of the club involved getting to know Ms. Roth under less than desirable circumstances the prior year. Now they see themselves a positive leaders and role models.
