A Poem for
How I spent my summer’s time
Is a lengthy tale told in poetry and rhyme
It may seem odd to write this way
But after a month of Shakespeare, I can’t think
of a better essay
It all began with a letter from me
A story of my desire to travel across the sea
A theatre major who yearned to explore
A trip that would be so much more than a tour
The Rotary club chose us and off we went
Along with four friends, I had only just met
Leah, the doctor who loved
Lindsay, whose business adventures no one could
stop
Julia, the lawyer, came with her sister in tow
And Jason, the only guy, was always on the go
We got off the plane and saw our new home
An amazing flat, a beautiful brownstone
We spent our first days on a Double Decker bus
Getting around the city was much less of a fuss
As classes began, we each made our lists
Field trips and sights we didn’t want to miss
With Harry Potter I became a fan even more
From the book to the movie; the great hall and
the train platform
The
We were told true Ghost stories that come alive
every night
The world’s largest diamond was exquisite and
clear
And just down the hall was the “loo of the
year”
The Museums were amazing, we learned
From artwork to culture, the Rosetta stone and
the royal family
Her remarkable story was always on our minds
I toured the Globe theatre and watched Othello
in awe
I loved The Lion Kings Puppets and a classic,
Les Miserables
Mary Poppin’s flew a kite and sang about her
spoon
Billy Elliot tapped-danced and Wicked’s wizard
made me swoon
I loved all six musicals but the most memorable
was a play
It starred Orlando Bloom on his first West-end stage
After the show, I waited with a crowd, behind a
guard
Trying for an signature, or a photograph of
this star
Luckily he saw me; I got an autograph by chance
I ran home in true theatre fashion; dancing and
twirling around street lamps
We sat in on a council meeting and met
He sent us on our way after applause from the
board
The London Rotary club invited us for lunch
Julia and I tried beef bangers, our first truly
English brunch
As for our day trips, we went on quite a few
From
The roman baths were green but the sight was a
must-see
We spent one day on
Took a boat ride on the Thames and ended up in
Looking back I can’t believe it has come to an
end
Four weeks of awesome memories, four more
amazing friends
We left with ambition, a desire for more
And came home with a passion to travel and
explore
But for now I’ll bid you adieu, and say thanks
again for this wonderful opportunity.
